Steel Weighing

Steel weighing scales: an industry backbone

There are many types of weighing devices made from a variety of materials. But when it comes to high-quality, heavy-duty equipment, steel is the material of choice for weighing scales and other industrial weighing systems.

Steel weighing scales are robust and reliable instruments and are designed to tackle some of the toughest weighing challenges. Combine this with the instrument’s ability for high-precision measurement and it’s no wonder that steel weighing scales are an essential part of countless industrial applications.

At Eilon Engineering, we have decades of experience as a top crane scale manufacturer, including award-winning multi-point load cell systems, wireless dynamometers, and more.

Why steel weighing devices?

Steel is ubiquitous in construction, manufacturing, transport, and many other industries due to its strength and durability. The need to weigh heavy objects and structures accurately is a big part of many industrial operations and aids in inventory management, cost calculation, and maintaining safety standards.

Furthermore, steel weighing devices are preferred because they can withstand harsh industrial environments and provide reliable measurements over time, making them a cost-effective long-term investment. And because of their resistance to corrosion and ability to handle high-pressure situations without deformation, steel weighing scales will maintain their precision and structural integrity even in the most demanding conditions and over the long run.

It’s for these reasons that all Eilon Engineering load cells are made of high-grade aerospace steel. And because our load cell bodies are fatigue-rated, this means they can withstand an unlimited number of lifts or load cycles without any damage to the steel, so long as the system has never been overloaded.

But we also know that steel weighing systems are not a one-size-fits-all situation. That’s why we offer a diverse range of weighing devices with various optional add-ons to suit nearly any type of industrial lifting application.

Eilon Engineering Product Range

Wired and wireless dynamometers

Our dynamometers consist of an aerospace-grade load cell body and a handheld remote indicator. The indicator receives the measurement data from the load cell and displays it on an LCD screen. The indicator has several built-in functionalities including TARE, ZERO, MAX (aka peak hold), and more.

This remote indicator receives data from the load cell either via an attached wire or through advanced wireless communication using radio frequency.

And while both systems are excellent examples of steel weighing devices, having a wireless load cell is often advantageous and sometimes necessary—for example in high-heat or other harsh environments. Moreover, the wireless system greatly enhances user safety and convenience, as it eliminates the trip hazards associated with cables and allows operators to maintain a safe distance from potentially dangerous situations.

A leading crane scale manufacturer

Similar to our wired and wireless dynamometers is our line of Ron Crane Scales.

The major difference between the two is that crane scales feature a bottom hook, where dynamometers use both upper and lower shackles. Having this hook is useful in many applications, including:

  • Hanging and weighing cargo
  • Measuring the weight of nets in commercial fishing
  • Quickly verifying shipment weights for freight and logistics operations
  • Checking load weights in material handling and construction sites
  • Facilitating inventory control in warehouses
  • And more

Our Ron line of crane scales has been favored by countless companies due to their high quality, durability, and accuracy. They feature the same wired or wireless load cells as in all of our systems, and are available with either a remote or integrated display.

Some models, like our Ron 3025 and Ron 3050 have the option of including a protective cage for use in settings where additional protection is required to protect the scale from potential impact risks.

Multi-point load monitoring

Back in 2005, we decided to put our decades of experience and expertise in wireless load cell technology to good use and develop our first multi-point weighing, load monitoring, and overload prevention systems.

Shortly after we launched our Ron StageMaster and CraneMaster systems, which quickly gained international recognition winning awards and major trade shows. These multi-point systems are now used around the globe for both stage and industrial applications that require complex, heavy-lifting tasks where load monitoring of multiple lifting points is crucial.

This is because multi-point lifting is different from single-point lifting in some critical ways—namely, the concept of statically indeterminate structures.

This means that any time there are more than two hoists on a beam, or more than three hoists in a structure, the structure becomes statically indeterminate. This results in an unpredictable load distribution, even if the beam appears to be well-balanced and level. In many instances, this will cause a load imbalance where some of the hoists are carrying most of the load, while others are carrying only a small portion of it.

This can lead to an overload of one of the lifting points, which could have potentially catastrophic consequences.

That’s why a load monitoring system with multi-point load cells is essential to ensure a safe load distribution across all lifting points.

Our Ron StageMaster and CraneMaster multi-point systems use a central radio receiver to simultaneously collect data from all lifting points. These measurements are then displayed on a real-time load map, complete with early overload detectors and other features.

These systems represent a breakthrough in load monitoring technology and safety.
