What are wireless load cell transmitters?

Wireless load cell transmitters are sophisticated devices designed to facilitate the seamless transmission of weight measurements from load cells to data collection or control systems without the need for physical wires. 

At their core, these transmitters function as communication hubs, receiving signals from load cells and transmitting them wirelessly to receivers or monitoring stations. This could be a simple handheld indicator or a full load cell map display on a laptop screen. 

Unlike in a wired system, wireless transmitters offer unparalleled flexibility, allowing for easy and reliable remote monitoring in dynamic environments. They come in various forms, ranging from compact modules for a limited number of load cells, to large multi-channel receivers/transmitters capable of handling data from 200 or more measurement points simultaneously.

These transmitters utilize advanced wireless technologies such as Bluetooth, or radio frequency (RF) to transmit data reliably over short or long distances, depending on the application requirements. This wireless functionality not only simplifies installation and maintenance but also reduces the risk of cable damage or interference, ensuring uninterrupted data transmission.

As you probably already guessed, a wireless load cell transmitter’s function isn’t solely to transmit measurement data—it also has to receive that data from the wireless tension load cell, wireless dynamometer, or other wireless load monitoring device. 

This means you’re likely to see this piece of equipment equally referred to as a receiver, or CRR (central radio receiver).

As part of our multi-point wireless load monitoring systems, we’ve developed several CRRs capable of receiving and transmitting data from wireless tension load cells with accuracy and reliability. 

These wireless load cell transmitters/receivers use either Bluetooth or radio frequency technology. Let’s look at a few of the available models.

Eilon multi-point wireless load cell transmitters

While many weighing applications only call for a single lifting point, like a standard wireless dynamometer, many applications require an array of wireless load cells, aka a multi-point system. In these situations, Eilon Engineering offers two multi-point systems that include a wireless load cell transmitter: the Ron StageMaster and CraneMaster, used respectively for entertainment and industrial applications.

The Ron StageMaster offers a comprehensive load monitoring solution tailored for stage rigging scenarios. Specifically engineered to meet the unique demands of event rigging, it excels in simultaneously monitoring loads across multiple lifting points. This ensures optimal weight distribution, crucial for maintaining safety standards during events. 

The Ron StageMaster is available with several types of wireless load cell receivers. 

The first is our Portable Radio Receiver, which enables the seamless transmission of measurement data from up to 75 load cells to any smartphone or tablet. Once transmitted from the portable transmitter, the load can be displayed in real-time in various formats like a full load cell map, tables, or bar graphs. 

Utilizing Bluetooth technology, it offers convenient access to load measurements on mobile devices and is our sole Bluetooth-enabled receiver. Its handheld, portable design caters to the needs of stage riggers, providing unrestricted movement while accessing crucial data on the job site. This feature-rich receiver ensures flexibility and ease of use, empowering users to monitor multiple lifting points with precision and confidence.

For setups that call for up to 100 load cells, we offer our Standard Radio Receiver. This is a full-featured desktop receiver for medium-sized installations. It receives and transmits each load cell’s weight measurement to a laptop where a real-time load map shows the measurements.

Next, for even larger installations, we offer a Premium Radio Receiver, also for use with laptops. This allows for up to 200 load cells to be displayed on a single load map—the pinnacle in remote load monitoring systems.

Both the standard and the premium receivers include a carrying case, a laptop, and our proprietary RSM software.

Lastly, we offer a Rack Mountable Radio Receiver for use with laptops. This receiver/transmitter allows for the display of measurement data of up to 200 load cells on a real-time load map. This is the ideal option for the largest installations, tours, and venues where a full rack is being used. It can even be mounted in an optional flight case for safe transport.
