In thousands of concert halls, universities, theaters, hotels and high schools throughout the world, scenery, lighting and sound equipment is lifted and hung, often above hundreds of guests, performers and the audience.

A dangerous overload situation may occur for several reasons:

Several persons are involved in the lifting activity and lack of coordination between them might eventually cause a dangerous overload situation, even if each team individually makes sure not to hang more than the safe working load.

In a situation where one construction is raised using several lifting points, the load might be distributed unequally which means that some of the points will be overloaded and others will carry less load. As a result, an overload situation might occur even if the total load does not exceed the total safe working load of all the lifting points together.

Lifting additional equipment after the total lifted load has been calculated and approved might exceed the safe working load and create a dangerous overload situation.

Lifting a load which is anchored either to the floor or to other heavy equipment, or is still connected with unreleased bolts, may also cause an overload.

Side loading is another reason for overload to occur.

Overload is dangerous and can cause accidents.
In stage rigging applications, since there may be many people under the hung equipment, the consequences of an accident are likely to be much more severe and result in many casualties and injuries.

For this reason safe rigging is very important, especially in stage rigging applications, and every effort should be made to prevent overload.

Safe rigging may be achieved by weighing during rigging, which means weighing the suspended equipment when lifting it. In addition to weighing the lifted equipment, an additional safety measure against overload is the option of triggering an alarm when an overload situation is detected.

RON crane scales, dynamometers, load cells, hanging scales and overload detectors provide a variety of safety solutions for weighing during rigging, weighing suspended scenery and for stage overload prevention.

The Hilton Tel Aviv has recently equipped its ballroom with RON systems for weighing suspended equipment and for overload prevention. The new systems measure the weight of scenery, sound and lighting equipment on the hanging beams.

RON Crane Scales for weighing suspended scenery and stage overload prevention, detect overload situations and automatically halt the lifting.
As shown in the above photos, each of the RON systems consists of two load cells and one display. Each RON set is installed on one of the lifting beams on which the equipment (scenery, lighting and sound equipment) is hung. Each load cell is mounted on each of the two cables that hang the lifting beam.
When the lifted load's weight exceeds the safe working load, the RON system detects the overload, sends a signal to the control box and halts the lifting.

The RON Crane Scale's load cell is especially suitable for this application as it provides minimum headroom loss.

The RON hanging scale, crane scale, dynamometer, overload and load cell series is specially designed for weighing during lifting, cable tension measurement and overload prevention.
